Starting a workflow from the Shopify admin

Custom workflows, depending on the type of trigger, are started from different parts of the Shopify admin interface:

If the workflow starts with the Custom workflow started, it can be started from the Workflow Companion interface by the Actions → Start custom workflow action.
For other types of triggers, the workflow is started
- from the list of items when we select one or more rows
- from the item form

Saving and reusing specifiers

If you start the same custom workflows regularly, you can save their specifiers and reuse them instead of typing them each time — this also avoids a typo silently skipping the workflow you meant to run.

Save — with a value in the Specifier field, select the star to add it to your saved list. It appears as a chip below the field.
Reuse — select a saved chip to fill the field with that value. As you type, the chips narrow to the ones that match what you have entered.

Saved specifiers are grouped by where you start from: products, orders, customers, and companies each keep their own list.
